During neutral-buoyancy training you will be submerged below the surface of the water until you are halfway between the bottom and the top of the water. Air is inserted into your suit until you no longer sink, or float. now you are considered “neutrally-buoyant” in the tank. this is as close to weightlessness on earth that you can achieve.
After you have attained neutral-buoyancy, we will begin to expose you to various scenarios that you might encounter while in space. we work on communications, working in the dark, working with tools, grab-rail and tethering techniques, and basic spacesuit familiarization. there will always be a safety diver in the water with you, and a diving expert on hand to control the dive platform you’re working from.
